The Buttermilk Story
Nestled in the historic heart of downtown Cobourg, Ontario, The Buttermilk Café occupies a beautifully preserved building from the mid-1800s — directly across from the majestic Victoria Hall, a designated National Historic Site of Canada. Since February 2002, we have been proudly family-owned and operated, serving our community with honest, scratch-made comfort food and genuine small-town hospitality.

The Freshest
Flavours in Town
At The Buttermilk Café, we believe in doing things the right way — from scratch, every single day. Our kitchen team arrives at the crack of dawn to bake our artisan breads, prepare our signature soups, mix our famous buttermilk pancake batter, and craft our homemade salad dressings and decadent desserts.
We source ingredients from local Ontario suppliers whenever possible, because great food starts with great ingredients. No shortcuts, no compromises — just honest comfort food the way your grandmother used to make it.
“Good food brings people together — it always has, and it always will.”
— The Buttermilk Café Family
